March 13th Lenten journey

Lord, all-powerful, almighty Lord, you send such a diversity of souls to do your work. Without divine understanding it is sometimes hard to recognise your will in others. I am overwhelmed by the differences in Christians and unsure of my judgement of Christian behaviour. My instincts and impressions are not to be trusted, I can only trust that you have faith in them Lord, and try to believe the best of all those I meet along this journey. Lord, we take travel so much for granted. Here I am getting on and off trains, in and out of cars, sometimes planes. We grumble about details and delays but these are modern wonders. They give us a chance to meet so many others, stumble across so much more of your creation. As I gaze out of windows on the move, help me to recapture the joy of your world, and share it. Lord, how do people torture and kill children, women and men? I cannot understand the anger, the despair, the driven force which makes this happen. Perhaps because I have a stable, safe life in a loving family. I have felt desperate and strong passions, but have never been moved to see them in a killing pattern. God in common

Just finished 24 hours of prayer in Heathfield for Christian unity. Churches Together in Heathfield (CTH) took turns to attend and pray. The event began and ended with an hour long service led by Father Michael at St Catherine’s . The strength and joy of praying together is tangible – why do we put up do many barriers between our churches? All must pray to God. All must contemplate the gulf between our small lives and His creation. All at some point cry out for spiritual comfort. Continue reading God in common
