March 15th Lenten journey

Lord, I thank you deeply for the gifts and graces which you surround me with every day. They are not deserved but a source of constant delight and joy. I focus on my daily timetable racing from one meeting to the next, trying to prepare for everything and nothing is more than fleeting. Your gifts and grace Lord are everywhere and always. Lord, I get the feeling that this journey has just been a series of pauses, rather than progress in some way. Am I moving towards you or simply settling in to a new routine? How do I find the way-markers to follow? How do I recognise the direction from the diversions? Lord, the trees are starting to grow fat with buds, and new flowers remind us of your plans for the world, that whatever is going on in our little lives, your creation finds its balance and continues to grow. Help us to keep a little perspective on our lives. To make plans and try to do and give what we can, but also to know that your purpose overshadows our actions. Lord, on Mothering Sunday we think afresh of you in terms of what motherhood involves. Yes the love, and kindness and gentleness, which it would do us so much good to follow. But also the hard decisions of mothers, who must do what is best for their children even when that hurts. The bitterness of loss felt by so many grieving mothers.
