Sunday prayer 15th May

Lord, at Pentecost we praise you for your gift of the Spirit. We bear the imprint of your love through the Spirit – help us to speak out and share this gift. Share and act our your gift in our daily lives, to our families and friends, neighbours and colleagues. If they do not know you yet, help us to find a way to show them your grace. We make so many mistakes, are so imperfect, that your Spirit working within us is the only way we might get closer to you, And do your work. Amen Continue reading Sunday prayer 15th May

Sunday prayer 8th May

Lord, this is such a special time between our celebration of the Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. A waiting time, a praying time, a spiritual time. Our focus on Novena prayer is to ask that our certainty of Christ’s love and saving of us through his resurrection and ascension overflows from our prayers to all who do not yet know him. Help us to share this awareness of the spiritual with those in need of spiritual care. Amen Continue reading Sunday prayer 8th May

Staying in the cradle

Refreshing and searching talk with my spiritual director yesterday. It is so tempting to lapse into all the things I do when discussing my role as a Reader. In an interregnum particularly, but most of the time there are so many calls on time and energy, that my head is full of detail and activity. Every opportunity that presents itself means testing whether I have the capacity to offer myself, to do something that will help, or whether I am just accumulating too much and cannot really help or give attention properly to all. Most of the things I do … Continue reading Staying in the cradle

Sunday prayer 24th April

Lord I am so blessed. Able to enjoy my own life and that of my daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Noticing things around their lives which they need to discover for themselves. Lord, help them and all young families to learn of your love and mercy. My saying and trying to show will never work until they notice you in their lives, as a loving embracing presence. Thank you for these blessed times with family. Amen  Continue reading Sunday prayer 24th April

Sunday prayer April 17th

Lord, change our values and priorities, be with us as we strive to follow your example. In our relationships with family and friends, help us to speak out for the simple and sustainable joys of a Christian life. A life which values every part of your creation its animals, minerals, plants as members, with us, in your earthly community. And help us to remember that supporting others through your love is part of our understanding of creation and our yearning for your Kingdom. Amen Continue reading Sunday prayer April 17th

Sunday prayer April 10th

Lord, Your peace and my peace are very different things, help me not get confused by the word. My peace comes at the end of a busy day when I am exhausted and drained, when I can “relax”, when I can watch mindless stuff on television in an attempt to get my mind to slow down. Your peace comes at the start of the day when the world is fresh and I can face all my little worries with calm and let you enter my mind. When I can share with you my challenges and failures and don’t feel bad … Continue reading Sunday prayer April 10th

Sunday prayer April 3rd

Lord, the birdsong of early Spring and the new lambs in our small flock surround this place. The new lambs needed much preparation, extra feed for the ewes, provision for lambing pens, many decisions around timing, support, moving ewes. In the same way we need to prepare and make new provision for new people to join our church. To join with us, in a way which fits their needs, and to understand how we can adjust to support them. In an interregnum it feels as if all our energies are going into staying in one place, a place which is … Continue reading Sunday prayer April 3rd

March 27th Easter Sunday

From the Easter vigil: Christ yesterday and today, the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega, all time belongs to you, and all ages. to you be glory and power through every age and for ever. Amen Lord, this Lenten journey has given me hope and a little understanding of myself, a little light on the path. Having spent Lent so often in the company of other Christians of many denominations, I know more clearly how this Anglican faith is precious to me, and how much the fellowship and partnership of denominations matters to me and to you. We are … Continue reading March 27th Easter Sunday
